Tribal Team: The Walkers
Meet the Walker family: Dave, Katie, Layla (3 1/2), and Eli (20 mo). When we were in training in Missouri, the Walkers were a class ahead of us, so we were there together for a year, but we never got to know each other. We were instant friends after the Walkers arrived here in PNG exactly one week after we did, though, so now it seems sad that we weren’t friends then! Dave and Katie are West coasters, like the Butlers, but they come from California. Even though Katie might look Asian, she’s really American through and through, as she was adopted by American parents from Korea as a baby.
Unlike Faye, Katie and I are actually a lot alike. We share a love for big, dangly earrings, second-hand fashions, sweet tea, creating stuff in the kitchen, struggling to wash all of our dishes, hanging out and sipping a coke on a hot afternoon while we watch our kids play. Katie is also a coffee nut and may be able to convert me to an ice coffee drinker one day…maybe.
Dave and Joseph are also pretty similar…in personality and looks. When we first got here the locals all mixed up the two tall, thin blond guys. He’s a quiet guy who likes photography and macs. He loves doing arts and crafts with his kids and co-designed the frisbee golf course here at Sobega with Joseph. Like Josh, Dave doesn’t mind losing to Joseph.
Layla, their daughter, is exactly the same age as Lucy. They share the same birthday, September 25, 2008, which we got to celebrate together shortly after coming to PNG, and will get to celebrate many more times in the future! She and our girls have been best of friends since day one, and we are so glad that they all have each other!
Eli is just a couple of months older than Everett, so we imagine that they too will be best buds! After months of us prodding and wondering who would walk first, they both finally learned to walk just a couple of months ago. It has been so cute to watch them grow up and start to play like big boys together.
We love this family and are so excited to be partnering with them! Check out what they have to say on their blog.

It is so beautiful to see God provide friends for you and Joseph and for the kids as well!!!!
I loved reading Katie’s thoughts on pregnancy. Cracks me up.
So excited for all three of your families!
So will you all go to the sam Bush location? Will it be a new location or an area where missionaries have been before?
