Here at Lapilo, the Junior class at the school is always raising money to go on a big trip when they are seniors. They do a lot of different things like selling fresh squeezed lemon juice or tortillas and hosting events throughout the year. One of the big events they do is called skate night. They have several throughout the year, and their last one was right at the end of the school year. Each skate night has a different theme. This one was “famous duos”, so Belle and Everett dressed as Mickey and Minnie. Lucy dressed as Sleeping beauty and took a doll with her dressed as Cinderella.
The students do a great job with skate night. They decorate the gym, set it up like a skating rink, and make food to sell. The kids love it because they can skate or ride something around the circle. Here’s our cute little mickey going around the circle:
And I (and most of the moms!) love it because I don’t have to cook or clean up! They usually sell hamburgers, chicken nuggets, french fries, onion rings, salads, soft drinks, blizzards, and a orange julius type drink. Yum! Here are Joseph, Belle, and our friend Terry enjoying conversation and food:
It has been fun living here at Lapilo and getting to enjoy all the school events like skate night. It takes a lot more effort to make things great here, so it is fun to see what they do to make things special and fun. We certainly appreciate the effort!
