Though I don’t know what kind of coverage all of you in America are getting, I assume most of you are aware of the giant Typhoon that hit the Philippines. While it didn’t have a direct effect on us, there are NTM missionaries in the Philippines who had houses and property damaged–thankfully no serious injuries or deaths.
Some of you may remember that during our training in Missouri some of our closest friends were pilots. Four of those pilots and their families are living and flying in the Philippines to supply and support missionaries like us and right now they are assisting in the relief effort by offering their unique services (being able to fly to remote areas with small planes) to the cause. Among others, they are assisting the Red Cross. We would ask you to pray for these guys, their wives and their children over the next few weeks (Brain and Bailey, Joel and Missy, Josh and Candy, Zach and Jane.) There are some more details on what they are doing on the Dalton’s blog here. And if you would like to help out financially with this project (which is outside the normal scope and budget of what they do,) you can contribute here.
Though less likely, you may also have heard about a couple of large landslides in PNG over the weekend. These landslides killed some folks and have blocked the one major road that runs through the interior of PNG. While an inconvenience to some of our missionaries who travel on the road regularly, this is not a major burden for us. Landslides (even deadly ones) are a regular occurrence here and we just wanted you to know that we are fine.
