Elizabeth’s Story
I was raised going to church and at the age of nine I was baptized. I feel like I could have had a basic understanding of the gospel at that point, but I am not sure if that is actually when I began to trust in Christ for my salvation or not! I do know that at some point between then and high school I did come to understand the truth of the gospel–that I was sinful and going to hell unable to do anything about it, but Jesus paid my debt to God by dying on the cross enabling me to have a relationship with God.
During my time in the youth group I learned a lot about growing in a relationship with God, but college was an even bigger time of growth for me. I was really able to decide for myself what I believed about a lot of different things during that time. My thinking was challenged and I really learned how to seek God and study his word for myself as a result.
For three summers while I was in college I worked at a Christian summer camp. At this camp I learned a great deal about discipleship, both through my interaction with campers and other staffers and through the mentoring that I received from a few of the older staff members who showed great concern for my life and my growth. I also developed much more of a passion for God’s word and the gospel because of the influences there.
After college, Joseph and I got married and the Lord has used marriage to teach me even more about myself and about Him. We are continuing to learn and be challenged in each new phase of life and we are exited about all the things that working with New Tribes will have to teach us!
