Ballerina Unicorn Party

Ballerina Unicorn Party

Posted by on May 18, 2013 | 4 comments

Belle turned 6 on Monday, but we waited until today (Saturday) to have a little party for her. We invited a few of the little girls from the base and had a Ballerina Unicorn party! Fabulous theme, right? It was perfect for our obsessed-with-unicorns girly-girl. We started the party off by decorating unicorn horns (or “corns” as our girls would say) for the girls to wear.   Once they were sufficiently sparkled, we made the ballerina unicorns pose for a...

Living for the Weekend

Posted by on May 5, 2013 | 1 comment

After my post about my daily schedule, I had a few people ask about what we do on the weekends and what we do for school, so I am going to dedicate a blog post to each of those topics. Weekends.  Well, now that Joseph is working Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00, and we are homeschooling, weekends actually seem different than weekdays!  Last year, while we were doing language study, our weekends and weekdays seemed awfully similar, so I’m thankful for the distinction! ...

A Day in My Life

A Day in My Life

Posted by on Apr 27, 2013 | 12 comments

A couple weeks ago Molly Burns asked me what my days were like.  I wrote her back a super long email about my days and then realized that all of you might like to hear about my days.  So I cut and pasted my email to Molly. “My days…oh, they are all the same. My phone goes off at 5:30…I snooze one time and get out of bed at 5:39. That’s after a night of being up several times putting Sylvie’s bop back in (each time checking my phone to see...

Fat White Baby

The PNG ladies like Sylvie.  I think they like all little white babies.  Its cute to see them hold her. The other day I was in the store talking to a couple of PNG national ladies who work there.  I kind of laughed at our conversation about Sylvie.  The conversation went sort of like this: Them: She (Sylvie) has gotten so fat!  Oh, she’s a fat baby! Me: Yeah Them: She must eat a lot! Me: She pretty much just nurses.  I try to give her food, but she spits it...

Sick-o

Fleece, blanket and hat isn’t our normal attire in 80 degree PNG.  In the middle of the night last Joseph started feeling really sick…achy joints, fever, super cold.  Today he added a weird rash to that list of symptoms.  Thankfully we are right here on the base with the clinic, so he was able to get checked out this morning. Turns out it is some virus that is going around. He’s pretty pathetic and can’t do much of anything.  I’m hoping...

Sylvie Update

Before we left, lots of people asked us if we were worried about our kids transitioning back.  We kept telling people we were worried about the oldest two since they know more now and might be even more sad about leaving friends and family, but we certainly weren’t worried about Sylvie since she was just a baby and wouldn’t know any better. Boy were we wrong. Sylvie is having the hardest time of the bunch adjusting to her new schedule/time zone.  I’m...

This is our house.  For now.  (I tried to count them up, and I think this is home #12 since Belle was born.) And that’s our sweet little boy on the stairs (for scale.) I’m not sure if you can tell from this picture or not, but as far as size goes, this house is definitely an upgrade from our first PNG home!  It has 3 bedrooms (Woohoo!  We only had 2 before,) a mudroom, and all the rooms are just a bit bigger.  Yes, Lindsey, it also has fabulous wood...

Passport Photos

We recently applied for Sylvie’s passport (still waiting to get it back so we can buy plane tickets!) and had to renew Belle’s and Lucy’s. As we were doing that I was thinking how funny it is that 3 of our kids have passport photos from when they were tiny babies. I thought ya’ll might get a kick out of seeing them. Can you tell who is who? And here’s Belle’s for good measure: Pretty cute passports, huh? In case you weren’t...

Lovely Fall Saturday

Lovely Fall Saturday

Posted by on Nov 10, 2012 | 6 comments

Today was a perfect day.  The temperature was perfect for playing outside, the sky was perfectly blue, the leaves were fabulous colors and we had a fun-filled family day at home.  It was so nice.  It was the kind of fall day I missed last year while we were in the land of perpetual summer (which has its perks too…in a few weeks when it gets a bit too chilly for my taste I will be seriously missing that perpetual summer!) We have been eating up all of fall that...

The girls are really into Doc McStuffins right now. (That’s a Disney cartoon for those of you who don’t have preschoolers at your house!) My parents got Lucy a Doc McStuffins medical kit for her birthday. The other day Belle and Lucy were having a great time using that kit to doctor their baby...

Pumpkin Patch

Fall is here!  Its so fun to be here and get to enjoy the change of seasons! Today we went to pick out our pumpkin.  We absolutely had to get a pumpkin, since we missed out on all fall festivities last year, however, considering Sylvie is still only 9 days old we didn’t feel we could venture to an official pumpkin patch.  Instead we just went to a church nearby that has a pumpkin patch in their yard to benefit their youth group.  Turns out it was just as much...

Little House on the Prairie Party

This year for Lucy’s birthday we decided to do a Little House on the Prairie party.  She is in love with Little House and loves to pretend to be Laura or Mary, so it seemed fitting. We had the party here on Saturday. Planning a party 4 days before my due date might not seem wise to most people, but we made it through!  We woke up to rain on Saturday morning, though, so ours plans of a backyard party were slightly thwarted. Not to worry, we managed to...

Lucy turned 4 yesterday.  I can’t believe she is already 4.  Wow, it is going fast. Her birthday was a school day (she goes to school Tuesday and Thursday mornings) so we got to take treats to school!  Belle and Lucy decorated the cupcake cones as they were eating breakfast….and decorated their waffles as well!   Here is Lucy’s little class at Brushy Creek Baptist. It was so fun to get to visit!   Mommy and Daddy surprised Lucy with a...

Belle lost her first tooth.  It actually happened last Wednesday, but I am just now getting around to posting about it. Sorry about that!  It was pretty big news at our house!  We had been wiggling it for quite a while and anticipating the big day, and then at lunch on Wednesday it finally came out!  Daddy had to pull it just a bit, but it really was barely hanging on. Hard to believe our girl is so big! Look how cute she is with her gap! She has been so excited to...

Back in Greenville!

We spent several days with each set of grandparents after first arriving in the states, where we adjusted to the time change with plenty of hands there to help with the kids! (That was so nice.) We were also able to get over being sick much more easily with the added bonus of sending the kids downstairs to play with Nanny and Papa every morning! What a treat! One morning I slept until 11! I don’t think that has happened since kids! We have been in Greenville for...

We are back in civilization and it is very normal in some ways and very strange in others.  Part of me feels right at home and sort of just wants to say “Ahhh”, but then some things that were once very normal feel very strange now! Our first time strolling down the paved streets, surrounded by tall buildings, passing by super stylish white people was quite strange.  I find myself doing some serious people watching…maybe more appropriately called...

Well, we didn’t do much on the actual 4th of July, but today, the 7th, we had a fun filled day celebrating together.  It almost felt like we were home…except we were much cooler here!  We got together with several other families on our base (mostly American, except for one Australian couple and one German gal, but we were happy to include them as well!) and had a cookout as well as fun games for the kids. Here’s our patriotic family The guys took...

A Washer and Dryer I don’t really mind the chore of laundry all that much here, but it takes up a good bit of time, so I am thrilled that I will have a washer and dryer in our house while we are in America! I’m going to appreciate not having to switch the load from wash to spin to rinse to spin and the freedom of being able to do laundry at any time of day, rather than having to do it first thing so the hung laundry has time to dry! Belle may miss her shady...

Kelley Haff, this post is for you! I thought I had done this post months ago when we took the pictures, but when I went back and looked for it to show it to Kelley, I realized it wasn’t there! So its a few months old, but I thought it was interesting none-the-less! Kelley got coconuts in her produce share basket, and I’m sure some others of you did too, so I thought you would like to see what the folks here do with coconuts. Coconuts are grown in PNG, but...
